Manchester United have confirmed Mason Greenwood is a doubt to face Crystal Palace on Thursday in a blow to their top-four hopes.
The 18-year-old has been in sensational form for United since the season restart but took a whack from Oriol Romeu against Southampton in a controversial challenge that VAR deemed wasn’t worthy of a red card.
United take on Crystal Palace on Thursday in the Premier League before taking on Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.
With Greenwood a doubt to play at Selhurst Park, it’s not unreasonable to question whether he will be fit for Sunday’s Wembley clash.
Manchester United find themselves four points behind Chelsea heading into the clash after the Blues’ 1-0 win over Norwich City, piling the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I’ll give Luke [Shaw] as much time as possible – him and Mason, their ankles are swollen and a bit blown up,” Solskjaer told MUTV .
“I’ll give them as much recovery time as possible to give them a chance.
“Brandon [Williams] should be fine, he has a gash over the eye but if he can see out of it then… we’ve not trained obviously this morning yet but we’ll hopefully have two, maybe all three of them.”
On Greenwood, he added: “In the heat of the moment he’ll play on and adrenaline gets you going, and then you get a little bit of reaction after.
“I said after the game that my ankles were a bit weak after many years of football. But obviously, Mason carried on and I think it should have been looked upon by the referee definitely.”
