Banky W calls for Nigeria to raise age of marriage to 18

Olubankole Wellington popularly known as Banky W has called for the marriage age in Nigeria to be increased to 18.

Banky W took to his social media page to state that Nigeria has no excuse, not even religion to stop the marriage age from increasing to 18 as Saudi Arabia, the kingdom of Muslims raised their age of marriage as well to 18.

He wrote;

Some Nigerians try to hide behind religion as the reason why they should be allowed to marry children. But if Saudi Arabia – the kingdom, the headquarters i.e. Mecca, can raise the age of Marriage to 18 (because it’s the right thing to do) then Nigeria has no excuse. #Timeup

See some reactions to the post below.

On point!! Anyone less than that 18 is a minor. And that’s an abuse!!! It hence call’s for questioning; if by any means anyone gives out his child for anything such as marriage under the disguise of religion. – Makpan D.M.Peaceman

Child marriage is a product of ignorance but some Muslim through religion capitalized on it. It was rampant in Igboland but Christianity changed it. My grandma told me that in she days, girls used to be married off at birth but won’t leave until they start seeing their period. – @RealAgada_uche

No religion I know supports child marriage it’s clearly stated in the Qur’an concerning marriage and every other issues to follow the individuals charged with authority and to also follow the laws of your land – @HafeezShonde

you have a point. But do you know Usa Flag of United States still allows marriage before 18 with the parents acknowledgement. You should have not posted about religion and it marriages. You are politician. – @AdedoyinTaofeek
